PostSubject: GY 173 Foals At Whisperin' Pines Manor   Fri Jul 13, 2012 3:47 pm

I bred five mares this season. Right now I consider my foreign import and LS herd mostly just blood stock; meaning I only plan on getting a few correctly colored foals out of them, and then using those foals as foundation horses. Unfortunately though, pretty much all of them have genes I don't want! So, for the next few seasons I am probably going to breed as may mares as I can, and then sell off all the babies with colors I consider undesirable.

But I have five due this season:

Foal #1
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] x [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Pretty much a 75% chance the foal will be a color I don't want haha

Foal #2

Foal #3

Foal #4

Foal #5

Any foal that is not bay, black, or chestnut will be for sale! I may consider keeping foals with roan too though.
There is a good chance several of these foals will be for sale. If you are interested in one, and want to put a claim on the unborn foal, post here!

Just please note that the foal is not guaranteed to be for sale!

Foal #2 is here!

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

A gorgeous filly, but she will be for sale. She is not an acceptable color because of her champagne, but maybe she will make someone a nice foundation mare.

Foal #3

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Another filly!... but again, a color I don't want. Grey - buckskin. She is also affected. If someone wants her, I will give her to a ERDHHR member for free, otherwise she will be rehomed at weaning.

This was the foal I was most excited about too Sad

Is grey just not acceptable for your personal color goals? They are acceptable for the Keuring, aren't they? If so, I can take her off your hands. Some of my best broodmares ever have been affected. And TinTin is clear so the babies will be carriers and that is easy to breed out in another generation.

Grey and creme are both accepted within the registry, so yes, I am just selecting against them Smile I have no problem with affected horses either, I just wasn't sure how useful she would be to anyone here.

So, once she is weaned, she is all yours! She will be in training until then.

I should point out somewhere though, affected horses have halved show scores. The first thing inspected of a horse in a keuring= its show-ability. Just something to think about Smile

I am still trying to figure this out. If she is not approved for registration in the DHHR, does that mean her foals won't be either. This is all new to me.m Question If so, I guess she won't do my program any good. And I did have a very nice little filly out of my LS mare yesterday, so I am not so desperate for one now.

Mkay. Let me see if I can outline it. Start with either 1 or 3.

1. You have a DW with FS, LS, or lineage of DWs that were never in the ERDHHR. Go to 2.

2. A. But the horse has some characteristics that are unaccepted in the registry = The horse is not registerable, but its offspring may be. Go to 5.

B. The horse meets the minimum requirements = it is eligible for registration. Go to 5.

3. You have a DW with ERDHHR approved parents. Go to 4.

4. A. This DW meets the minimum requirements and was accepted. Go to 5
B. This DW either did not meet minimum requirements, or was not accepted. Go to 6.

5. This horse is breedable by ERDHHR standards. Even 2B horses that were not accepted as this is a foundation horse.

6. This horse's offspring are not registerable in the ERDHHR. Why? You had 2 registered horses, bred them, and then the foal did not meet the breed standards. This possibly shows declining genetic potential, a trait not wanted.

Foal #4 is here! A chestnut roan filly! She'll be a keeper! However, her dam, Wicked Ravenna, will be for sale after the foal is weaned! I have gotten both an acceptable filly and colt so I don't need her anymore.

Last foal is finally here!

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

He is an acceptable coloring for the registry (grey (buckskin) sabino) but I am not interested in it. He will also be for sale.

I believe that little affected filly fits the requirements to have registerable offspring, since her sire is LS. If that is correct, I would still like to have her.

You are correct, though I'm not sure what her sire has to do with it. I'll send her over when she is weaned. Smile

To be foundation DHH stock they don't have to have an LS sire if thats what you mean. A foundation DHH would be any DW that has no registered DHH in its pedigree, that will be used in the breeding of DHHs. Smile Does that make sense?

No my thought was that she could have registerable babies since both parents aren't DWs. Is that right? But if they had been then the babies couldn't be registered. But it is late and I am tired so I may not know what I am talking about. lol!
